The ostrich market is a state of flux at the moment. With the avian influenza that struck the South Africa last April, and with positive tests coming out again this past few weeks, prices for ostrich skin will be raised approximately 30% around April 1st. This is primarily due to the decline in ostrich supply and keeping the farmers healthy. Without being able to sell the meat to Europe, the industry will need to make up that income from the skins and feathers. The way it looks now, it may be another year before the meat can be sold.
